Inline Dimmer Cord Switch - Leviton Brand Full Range Lamp Dimmer, Rotary Knob, Feed Trhu

Brown or Ivory (Beige), Great with Cloth Wire - 2-wire cords only!!!!

Leviton Inline switches are durable and dependable, and are the top of the line as far as dimmer switches are concerned. What sets them apart? 1) Smooth function: steady increases and decrease of the light output. 2) Full range: these will get your bulb as low and as high is it is capable of. 3) Consistent output: cheap dimmers are known for flickering and flashing, these dimmers will work beautifully. 4) Longevity: Look inside the dimmer, there's a lot going on in there! Don't wast time with cheap dimmers that will fail or fry up in a short period of time.

Dimmer function: Yes these will also turn the bulb on and off! Rotation starts in the "off" position, as you turn it clockwise it clicks "on", and then you have the ability to rotate the dial to your desired brightness level. These dimmers are designed for incandescent bulbs, but generally LED bulbs marked "dimmable" will work with these too. All of our bulbs work well with these dimmers (both incandescent filament and LED).

Feed through switches are easy to work with: The shell unscrews with 2 screws. Your cord (make sure you have no power going to it!) will have 2 wires, the "neutral" wire will bypass the switch, just run it along the space in the bottom. Cut your "hot" wire in half, strip your ends (we recommend a small piece of electrical tape when using our cloth wire), and attach one end of your "hot" wire to one screw terminal, and attach the other end to the other.

This listing is for the Leviton Dimmer switch only (a quantity of 1 = 1 switch!!! Wire shown as an example, can be purchased separately!!!)

LED dimmers are needed for Dimmable LED lights

Posted by Bill on Oct 4th 2021

This product is marked INCAD ONLY and for good reason: it is a traditional "leading edge" phase dimmer suitable for incandescent lights only. Your guy I talked with said it should work with any light labeled Dimmable. I was switching a string of 6 Pilar lights from incandescent to Dimmable LED, and had already snipped the cord where it was soldered to the old dimmer. Having noted the INCAD marking on the new dimmer I called and got your assurance, and wired it up. It works but not fully. For dimmable LEDs to work well, one needs a "trailing edge" phase dimmer. Use this one for LEDs and you will get less than good results.

****REPLY FROM SNAKE HEAD VINTAGE: Hi Bill, I do remember talking to you and I stand by what I said: for the vast majority of situations, including many, many of our own customers over the past 10 years (other reviews can attest) these dimmers work just fine for most LED bulbs marketed as "dimmable". That is the entire point of dimmable LED bulbs, that they can be used with traditional dimmers. Customers buying dimmable LED bulbs are not going out and installing specialty dimmers throughout their house, they are using them on traditional dimmers (just like ours) and they are working just fine.

It sounds like you have a unique situation, are dimming multiple lights (6) and even the link you included talks about the math that needs to go into dimming a large number of LED bulbs. I'm sorry this dimmer didn't work for you, and I still stand by the guarantee we offer all our customers: if it doesn't work for you then we'll take it back for a 100% refund. You have decided to keep it, so my assumption is that maybe this dimmer is working better than any other you have tried?

To our other customers: these are very good, high quality dimmers, that will work with all incandescent bulbs, and MOST dimmable LED bulbs, as long as the bulb manufacturer is reputable and you don't have other extenuating circumstances (like a large number of bulbs on a string light). And if it doesn't work for you for any reason, we will take it back for a refund.

    Looks great. Works great.

I used the switch on a lamp cord. The lamp has three dimmable LED bulbs in it, and it is working great. It dims the bulbs and there is no flickering. I recommend it.

    Hard To Find

It was nice to be able to find a site that sells "hard to find" electrical products. The dimmers performed perfectly.

    inline dimmer control

Posted by Richard on Feb 16th 2021

The control works fine, but the holes at either end are quite small, which greatly limits the size of lamp cord that can be accommodated. Ours is an average size 18/2 cord, but the dimmer could not be screwed shut so I’ll have to return it. I decided to use a Lutron dimmer switch in the wall, instead.

SHV Reply: Sorry to hear that Richard, we can take back for a refund, these are designed to work with 18 gauge 2-wire cord, so unless yours was an extra thick insulation or thick braiding (like hemp rope vs cloth cord), it should fit fine. All of our 18/2 twisted cords and parallel style cords work well with these.

    Easy to wire

Posted by Unknown on Jan 5th 2021

No soldering required. I had it spliced and running in less than 10 minutes. Only downside was that there was too little room to run the other wire inside the switch case so it looks a little ghetto.

SHV REPLY: Hello, glad it's working for you, regarding the other wire, what size cord are you using? These should be able to fit almost any 18 gauge 2-wire lamp cord, twisted or parallel style (but round cord, 3-wire cord, or thicker gauge cord may make it more difficult)
